Den fantastiska tamburinen (1908)

"The Knight of the Black Art" is a particularly skillful sries of multiplications and impossible happenings. Méliès appears in medieval garb and a black wig, accompanied by three pages. Two hoops are produced. On one of them Méliès paints a comic face. Out of the two-dimensional hoop he extracts scarves, rabbits, and bottles of wine. Two girls appear and are "peeled open" into four girls, who then have different costumes thrown onto and snatched from their bodies by the magician. Méliès sets up the hoop horizontally. A woman in Spanish costume slowly rises out of it and disappears in the same way. The conjurer hops on a pedestal and gradually disappears as the hoop is passed down around his body. He reappears in blond wig, turns one hoop into two, turns the two into a bicycle, and cheerfully rides off stage. (texten ur Artificially Arranged Scenes.
