He started as a carpenter and then launched himself into the successful Swedish fashion industry, a not altogether obvious step. After a few years there he moved on to the film industry.
He graduated from the School of Film Directing at the University of Gothenburg in 2003. His graduation film Hus, torn, stenmurar & en och en annan drake (Houses, Towers, Stone Walls & a Kite or Two) was a unique and personal documentary, essayistic in character. The film was decisive for his filmic development and led among other things to a close cooperation with production company Bokomotiv and producer Freddy Olsson.
Trädälskaren (The Tree Lover) was Jonas Selberg Augustsén's feature debut. The project took some time to finish and during that period the shorts Kalven och friheten (Freedom Calf) and Processen (The Process) were produced. Both have been favorites at festivals in Sweden as well as internationally.
Jonas Selberg Augustsén has the rare gift of taking existential thoughts and successfully applying them in everyday action, for a beautiful mix of depth and entertainment. In 2007 Jonas Selberg Augustsén was awarded the Bo Widerberg Scholarship.
