Plot summary
Three sisters, aged 7 to 15, live alone. Their mother vanishes for whole swathes of time, and the sisters have to get by themselves. When the social services demand a family meeting, oldest sister Laura has a week to find a stand-in for their mother. In her quest for a pretend mum, Laura starts a relationship with 35-year-old Hannah – something that changes not only Laura, but also the sisters’ situation.
