Plot summary

The young expatriate Swede Hans Lövgren saves his somewhat tipsy fellow countryman Claes-Herman Sundelius when at a restaurant he is unable to pay the bill. Hans pays and in return Claes-Herman gives him a lottery ticket. The prize is a live seal. The seal is given the name Oscar and Hans takes him home. The seal’s presence in the house is fraught with problems. The housekeeper resigns. Hans tries to get rid of Oscar, but a certain affection has arisen between them. Hans discovers a fishpond in a private park which surrounds a house. Perfect. Young Diana arrives. It turns out that she is the daugther of Claes-Herman. Hans and Diana fall in love and Hans proposes marriage. She accepts. Oscar is delighted.
