Plot summary

Trishna is a free adaption of Thomas Hardy's 1891 classic "Tess of the d'Urbervilles", a novel which has been filmed many times. The story has been relocated to present-day India, in which sophisticated city life exists side by side and in complete contrast with life in the country where things have hardly changed for generations, women and men have completely different expectations and the gulf between rich and poor is enormous. Grave consequences ensue when Trishna has a child out of wedlock.
